I tried super hard in the experimentation stage to create a logo that had personality, wit and a certain charm to it, and don’t get me wrong, my early logos weren’t awful, but they just missed the mark completely. Instead of making sleek, minimal logo designs that were eye catching and would pop out on a phone screen, I made some that were so detailed and intricate that they just looked messy and too elaborate. I think at this stage I was trying too hard to stay in my comfort zone, which is drawing fine liner, detailed illustrations, instead of stretching my skills and trying out a new style that would have suited app design a lot better. These drawings always make me laugh when I look back at them, because they are really lovely and comical. I created these logo designs back when the app was going to be called Takeaway Temptation and I wanted the logo to show a chef destroying a takeaway box to show how the app will make you say no to takeaway and yes to being a chef. My chef turned into a sort of crazy psychopathic killer in some of these designs, hahaha I think I went too extreme with the eyes and the knife…But I did have a reason for this, I wanted the logo to really show how passionate I was about this leftover food concept and the knife cutting the takeaway box in half was something I really wanted to focus on because it summed up the entire app in one illustration. However, I think it turned into too much of a book illustration, something you would see in print but not an illustration used in apps. It’s not an awful drawing, and it looks quite sweet and comical but I’m glad I decided to move in a different direction. HOW FUNNY ARE THOSE ROUGH SKETCHES THOUGH HAHAHAHA.
